When, back in 1984, Bob Geldof was shell-shocked by the African crisis, he first recorded a single : "Do They Know It's Christmas" with the cream of the English pop artists of the time. This led to a lot of similar charity singles around the world. The Spanish ,French , and American songs detailed above are among them.(from: http://liveaid.free.fr/pages/bandaid.html)

Bullfighting and Matadors
Why not do a unit about bullfighting (very popular in southern France as well as in Spain) with your Spanish colleagues? It can be a stimulating source of discussion and debate. Many ideas and connections are contained on my Tauromachie wiki page , including art, literature , film, music and more. Note that there are separate pages linked therein for the Corrida and additional forms of "bull games" in France.

Carmen - a French opera, but set in Spain, and linked to the bullfight !

Tobacco factory scene

Carmen is the universal "femme fatale" - - a "classic" story that can be told within different frameworks of time and culture. Students could create their own, modern versions of Carmen ...

Black Orpheus (Orfeu Negro in Portuguese) is a 1959 film made in Brazil by French director Marcel Camus. It is based on the play Orfeu da Conceição by Vinicius de Moraes, which is an adaptation of the Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice, setting it in the modern context of Rio de Janeiro during the Carnaval. The film was an international co-production between production companies in Brazil, France and Italy.(source=Wikipedia)
